Saniél Atkinson-Grier is Pepsom’s “Featured Athlete” because of her many accomplishments in high jump. Her passion for the sport began at the age of 9 and she excelled while in high school, earning numerous awards including being named Nike All-American, 8x All Met, All-State, and ESPN Rise Athlete of the Week. Saniél is currently striving for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

When and what made you interested in high jump?

In 2000, when I was 9 years old, one of my friends from cheerleading convinced me to give track and field a try, and the high jump was one of the first events that the coaches put me in. Since that day, I have been very passionate about jumping and I feel that it’s an ability that God has blessed me with. Therefore, I take great pride in what I do and I do it to honor Him as well as my family, friends, and coaches that have supported me and my dreams since day one.

What is your most significant athletic accomplishment?

I actually have three significant athletic accomplishments that happened in 2012 and 2013. The first was in 2012 when I set a new personal record, as well as [narrowly missing] the qualifying standard for the 2012 Summer Olympics. The second accomplishment was when I won my Southern Eastern Conference Championship title and the third was when I won my first medal while representing my country, Jamaica.

What are some ways that you recover after training?

Soaking in Epsom salt is a part of my daily recovery routine, as well as using my Roll Recovery R8 and foam roller.

What is your ultimate goal?

To become an Olympic, World Championship, and Commonwealth Games medalist.
